Fire Spinning - Poi - Discover what you get
Looking to develop an existing poi activity? Hoping to extend your program to include performances with fire?
Starting a new poi activity from the outset?
Either way, we can provide you with all the information we have learned to assist you in building a safe and solid poi spinning program, either with fire, or without.
Creating your own poi program is, of course, always a viable option, and we’re not claiming to be offering you something that you couldn’t research for yourself. However, we are offering you valuable insight and experience to help you eliminate common mistakes and provide a poi activity that has a working balance of safety, fun and learning.
What you could do:
- Hire someone to create a poi activity from scratch. This will take approximately 30hrs+ of work at roughly $10 per hour, and there is a LOT of information out there to sort through. You will need to:
- Research many poi resources: online, in books, publications, videos.
- Search for a variety of equipment online, in local stores, trade magazines, camp conferences, neighbor camps, etc.
- Create your own lesson plans.
- Trial and error the equipment and activity to find out safety points and logistical considerations – professional safety information is recommended for this activity if you intend to use fire.
- Research many poi resources: online, in books, publications, videos.
- There are many websites offering guidance for poi spinning:
- www.youtube.com – there are an array of videos on here, from learning the moves to watching professional performances using all kinds of poi.
- There are MANY, MANY websites on this, just search “poi spinning” in www.google.com
- Read “Welcome to Poi Spinning” by Michal Kahn - $24.32 on Amazon.
NB: Please remember that spinning with fire is a beautiful art form which can potentially be very dangerous if the necessary procedures are not in place. If you are researching and setting up your own fire performance activities, we strongly encourage you to seek professional advice from a fire-spinning organization before attempting to use fire yourself or with campers. You will also need to talk to your insurance company directly before implementing this activity, whether you purchase our package, or do your own research.
What we offer:
- Instructions on how to spin poi yourself and information on the different variations of poi.

Benefits:
Our belief is that the value you will receive from our poi spinning package is far higher than the investment you would make in researching the activity for yourself. Fire spinning is not a common activity in most summer camps. Our hope is that we can pass our tested knowledge on to you, giving you the tools you need (without the time-consuming research and testing) to create your own safe, poi activity.
- You invest considerably less personal and staff time and in researching poi spinning, the research has been done for you!
- You receive the benefit of our errors made, and knowledge developed from us running the program.
- A lesson plan that focuses on the safety, learning and development of the campers.
- Many creative variations for the activity.
- Reliable contact with a human being, who can answer your questions and help you adapt the program to fit your organizations needs.
- We hope to spur innovation in your organization by planting a seed. If you create a program we don’t have, we‘d love to talk about buying it from you for our camp!
